The Broker of Record letter is the standard mechanism by which a client transfers servicing rights from one broker to another, or designates a broker initially. PEOs typically require a current BOR before releasing renewal data or quoting.

For brokers running competitive PEO processes, securing a BOR early is operationally important; without it, incumbent PEOs may decline to engage.
