E-Verify is operated by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in partnership with the Social Security Administration. Use is mandatory for federal contractors and for employers in a growing list of states.

Many PEOs offer E-Verify enrollment and case management as part of their onboarding workflow. Whether that obligation transfers to the PEO depends on state law and the Client Service Agreement.
